Devlog #4 – New Frogs, New Abilities  [Playtest v0.2.0]

Hey everyone, and welcome to another devlog for Hopfall!

I’ve been working on a lot of updates over the last few weeks and wanted to share what’s new, what got improved, and where the game is heading next.

🦴 What’s New

  • Added several new frogs and paired them with their own signature abilities:
    • Budgett frog with Taunt
    • White tree frog with Triple Bite
    • Mossy tree frog with Heal and Cleanse Poison
    • Surinam frog with Tadpole Mortar
    • Green poison dart frog with Poison Touch
  • Changed Venom Spit so it targets backline enemies -> I needed some frogs which target backline frogs so they are not completely safe by just putting tanky frogs infront to force more strategic field placement.
  • Added more visual polish with updated frog graphics, animations, heal travel FX, and poison cleanse FX.
  • Made poison and healing effects look more readable with smaller, more pixel-perfect status FX particles.
  • Improved looping behavior and timing for newly added ability animations and attack flows.

🔧 Bug Fixes

  • Fixed combat music not looping correctly.
  • Fixed cases where ability animations ended too early due to early cancellation.
  • Fixed an issue where selling items from frogs did not properly remove them.

  • Adding a Frog Codex - an overview of all discovered frogs
  • Adding an Item Codex
